Ascribe To The Lord
I Chronicles 16:28-31 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength, ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name. Bring an offering and come before Him; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. Tremble before Him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad, let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!”
Mankind has been marching on for generations since these words were first thought of and penned for us to read. And all throughout time, God has remained the same. Men have come and gone, but the directive to “Scribe to the Lord the glory due His name,” remains for each generation.
The world would like to take the focus off God and focus our time and energies toward the many social issues of racism, economics, famine, natural disasters and in some peoples minds, global warming. As we read this passage we must pay attention to; “The world is firmly established,” which would indicate that God is pretty much in control! So what are we worrying about more than what we are ascribing to the Lord? “Let the earth be glad, let them say among the people, ‘The Lord reigns!’” We need to not be overly-wrought with all of the social ills of this world; however we do need to fix whatever social ills are within our grasp to fix!
Oh the glory of God’s presence, to worship Him in the magnificence of His holiness! Who wouldn’t tremble in reverential fear and be excited in HIS presence? In the power of HIS presence would there be any social issues? Wouldn’t we become color-blind and no longer concerned about what we owned, or how warm the earth was, or how healthy our portfolio looked? The richness of God’s full presence would far exceed these!
So, what stops us from experiencing the pleasure of God’s magnificent presence? The scriptures would say a lack of ascribing to the Lord the glory due His name. Try this experiment: the next time you are over-whelmed with anxiety over this world, someone in need, or just the present times, stop and begin to; “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name.” And see if in that new frame of mind you don’t cancel out the anxiety.
“The Lord Reigns,”
